What is a “zone”?

When you walk from one room to another in your home, you want an even, uniform temperature throughout.  You or someone you know may have experienced this. This is what happens when your h.v.a.c. system has been installed in a very general way… i.e. a supply to each room and a return vent that follows, but what happens when you have a room that is furthest from the airflow source?

Answer: it starts to dissipate! losing its volume and preferred temperature.  Zoning systems are the cure for this symptom, while an unused “zone” i.e. room’ is not occupied why have it treated.

In other words in the winter you want the heat where you are, not dumping into a room that you never are hardly in. Or maybe when you bought the house you had children along with you that have since moved away, why keep their rooms so comfy? You can turn down the heat by closing the damper a touch and thus naturally forcing it to where the all the action is.  The same goes for the hot summer season, upstairs is way too hot but the first floor dining room that nobody eats in is nice and cool… hmmm it might be time to investigate and choose a zoning system that works for you.
